This often surprises people who meet me, but Mandarin Chinese is actually my first language, and I teach professionally. I’ve been teaching Chinese in Southern California high schools and private settings since 2017. While I’m very well-versed in the traditional teaching methods and curriculum for students, I am most known for skillfully coaching perfect pronunciation when speaking. I tend to specialize in the verbal aspect of learning Mandarin, which most commonly neglected in traditional classes.
While book learning and rote memorization is commonly taught to students, I feel that the most impactful lessons empower students to overcome the initial barriers to speaking Chinese. Anyone can learn to write the symbols on paper, but my teaching style prioritizes more well-rounded communication, verbal accuracy and confidence, and worldly cultural appreciation.
My knowledge of Chinese isn’t limited to book-learning. I've also developed a deep understanding
through visiting and living in China. Full immersion is always the best teacher!
